Family, new truck, and house work!

These past 24 hours have been quite a lot of fun. Zach's parents and grandparents came up to Kirksville yesterday. His grandparent's hadn't seen the house yet so we gave them the tour. Afterward we ran by Wal-mart and Home Depot to pick up some odds and ends for small home improvements. Zach and I finally left the gang around 11pm--everyone was pretty tired.

Then this morning Zach and I snuck in and ate the free continental breakfast with them at the hotel... Afterward we headed back to the house and split up for different jobs. Cleaning, electrical work, oven repair...even a shopping committee. Hehe. We got a small quart of paint just to try on a part of one wall--and we ended up painting the entire wall!

Here is the Birthday boy and me painting the wall together. It was a good time :)
Wall still needs another coat but it definitley beats the bright orange/peach!

The roomies. Brad had lots of good advice :)

We went to lunch at the brand new Mexican restaurant in Kirksville. It was Zach's grandpa's birthday and so he got a song and free dessert. Brad (Zach's roomate) also came and got to see the house for the first time.

That's some serious Mexican.

The other exciting piece of news is that we got a new truck! We finally decided on one and Zach's parents drove it up this weekend. It's a small, manual Mazda truck--so I have some stick-shift learning to do. I told Zach he's going to need a long afternoon and lots of patience to teach me :)
The new truck. (Pretty much all that snow fell while we were eating lunch)

And so there is the rundown of the weekend's adventures. As I write this Zach, Brad and I are in their room watching soccer and making brownies. It was so good to see family today and exciting to start work on the house. God is so good!

Love to all,
amy

  1. Congrats on the truck. What did the boys think of the soccer game? USA soccer truly sucks. I'm so disappointed in our pathetic game yesterday. We're going to get killed in the World Cup.

  2. They enjoyed watching it, lots of manly yelling :) Brad said that they usually play pretty well. I choose to remain optimistic about the World Cup.

  3. They usually play pretty well for a CONCACAF team...but in comparison to the good teams internationally we're not very good at all. There's no offensive creativity (aside from maybe Bradley) and the defense is suspect at best and old and broken at worst. Beasley was horrible, and even our best player Saturday (Hejduk) made a major mistake that resulted in a goal.

Bob Bradley is not a good manager. We won't go far under him--especially if he's unwilling to give youngsters like Adu and Altidore more playing time.

  4. A Voice of One Crying in the Wilderness, Make Way for Altidore!

    Luke,
You apparently have the gift of soccer prophesy.
Mr. Bradley, if he doesn't frequent thevicars.blogspot.com, must simply be very cogniscent of our keen advice. He did, as you undoubtedly noticied, start Altidore this evening. The youngster scored all three goals.
What you also fail to realize is that our not-so-good manager sired our one bit of offensive creativity. Perhaps Mr. Bradley (if he's not completely mimicking your managment style) deserves a little more credit.
    But perhaps not.
    With much love,
    Zach

  5. The win was nice, although T&T isn't exactly the cream of the crop football wise--still, as a bounce back game it was encouraging. It was also a nice coming out party for Jozy (even granted his missed sitter at the end of the first half). Hopefully it will cement his place in the starting lineup--he's by far our best scorer. Now if we can just find a replacement for Beasley and get Bob to play younger players a little more things may be looking up.

I was shocked (and pleasantly so) by Bob's willingness to start Jozy as well as his change of tactics and formation. Creativity is key to success at high levels, and while we don't have dynamically creative players (a la Rooney, Messi or Torres), we will benefit from changes. I do realize that Bob sired Michael, and am glad he did. Perhaps he is turning over a new managerial leaf (although I doubt it)..

  6. By the way, I can't tell you how excited I am to have another football fan in the family. Yay!
