What an amazing summer! Getting married definitely has to be one of the coolest things I have ever done :) The past month has been pretty crazy for Zach and me. We got married on July 26th (pictures of that to come later), a week later left for our two week honeymoon in Kauai, then spent a week in limbo between working at his grandparent’s farm and being in St. Charles. Almost two weeks ago we finally made our “permanent” trip to Kirksville. We set up our house (more pictures for later) and now it is a real home! College has begun again and we are about to end our second week of the fall semester.
And that is a very brief summary of our summer.
But what I know you would rather see are some pictures from the honeymoon! I only took about….1,500.
I’ll try and make it semi-chronological. Obviously it’s impossible to completely cover 14 days of adventure. Just take my word for it—every day was fabulous.
Alright, we shall begin with the plane ride. ‘Twas a lovely 9 hours....lots of good ear popping :)
We arrived at about 9:30 Kauai time (1:30 Missouri time) and from their our interesting first night unfolded... I will attempt to give you a brief version of the excitment:
1-A hardened, tatooed Hawaiian man flies up in a car, points at us, we get in the car, and he goes flying through city streets in the dark--without saying a word. (This was actually our rental car company taking us to the shop to pick up our car. However, in the moment it was quite terrifying)
2-We get our car and drive aimelessly around this strange city until we find Wal-mart--a familiar beacon of hope to any frazzled traveler.
3-Next we drive to the "safe, state beach park" where we will be camping on the beach. Long story short, there are police cars there and one of the cops informs us that the park is known for being an area with heavy meth-amphetamine and drug trafficking.
4-We finally arrive at a different park (suggested by our cop friend). Without really knowing the rules, and without a camping permit--we plop down our tent in the middle of a bunch of strangers. (It's quite late by this point)
We are the yellow tent (Zach is underneath, tearing it down at this point) It is about 6:00 AM and we were up and out before the park ranger could charge us for a permit :)
And that is the story of our eventful, hectic, and entertaining first night in Kauai.
